What is Hemp?

Hemp, or industrial hemp is typically found in the northern hemisphere, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 10,000 years ago. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items including paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, construction materials, biofuel, food, and animal feed.

Production

We source only the finest Hemp material manufactured in a family-run factory in China, where working conditions and equipment used are certified as meeting the highest standards.

To safeguard the quality of Sativa® bags the Sativa team takes regular trips to the hemp fields, mills and factories where the raw materials are grown, harvested, and sewn together to make our Eco-Friendly Hemp Bags.

Organic and Eco-Friendly

Hemp farmers do not need to use herbicides or pesticides as the hemp plant improves the soil for crop rotation and is therefore well suited for use in organic and sustainable farming. It is a valuable renewable resource that can reduce our over reliance on cotton, soybeans, timber and petroleum. The majority of clothes and design fabrics are made synthetics or cotton. The mass introduction of chemical fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides assists to keep the price of cotton and other fibre and oilseed crops low. However, as pests have become more resistant to these chemicals, larger quantities are required poisoning both land and water supply. This is why hemp is a better option.

Breathable and Anti-Bacterial

Hemp garments “breathe”, due the porous nature of the fibres, so hemp cloth stays cooler in warm weather while at the same time retaining heat in cooler weather as body heat warms air trapped in the fibres.

Hemp clothing naturally stops up to 95% of the sun’s harmful UV light, while being 5 times as strong as cotton; coupled with its strong anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, this makes the fabric a natural choice for hospitals and surgical applications. Hemp has good resistance to mould as well as carrying anti-bacterial properties.

Comfort and Longevity

Hemp is a strong natural fibre and will get softer with general use, while retaining its hard wearing properties to last you an incredibly long time.

Hemp fabrics dye very effectively to achieve our respected colour palette from our collection. They are so effective they retain its colour well over time.

Hemp is good for the environment and that is why we distribute these bags from Fair Go Trading. The level of detail and craftsmanship gives multiple compartments, pockets, holders and adjustable straps for casual and everyday use. This range includes bags, wallets and hats.

Our bags are 55% Hemp and 45% Organic Cotton blend, making it eco-friendly and remarkably durable.
